Almost a year ago, i was looking into simple, convenient solutions to making coffee that isn’t instant. Pods, capsules, cafes are all expensive, and much of the equipment associated also has a premium markup.

A well loved option for this in the coffee community appeared to be the aeropress- Frankly the price isn’t unreasonable, about $50-60 AUD for a basic model (around 35 USD) but while looking into it, i came across a copy on aliexpress called the yuropress. for around 16 USD (Sales vary), so i got one almost a year ago. purchase and shipping was no issue, it took about a week and a half to arrive and seems functionally identical to the AeroPress

Also while looking for it, i felt i also needed a grinder to.. grind the coffee for it, so i found the timemore chestnut c2 grinder which i purchase at the same time

I’ve had both units for about 8 months now, so after thoroughly using and experienced these products i can provide a review i’m quite comfortable with and answer some common questions

Firstly, both products have worked fantastically since purchase, no issues whatsoever. A couple questions i’ve been asked about the yuropress-
Is the plastic food safe.
The plastic used is PolyPropylene, which is a plastic that can survive being autoclaved at high temperatures and pressures. it’s also the same plastic used in the aeropress- you can put this plastic in a pressure cooker and generally it will be fine
Does the rubber plunger still work?
The plunger is working fine, basically as new with no issues, it pops off occasionally when removing it after use, but leaves no damage and frankly makes cleaning easier

Just one question about the grinder- does it grind finely enough for espresso-
Frankly i think so, but i’m not sure. i made a video for 8 month review and tried to make an espresso with the yuropress, but frankly i had no idea what i was doing. Turns out espresso isn’t just a small cup of coffee, it requires high pressure and not possible using a filter coffee maker such as the yuropress, so i have some new product coming to explore this further
